5 Lessons from the Story of The Day the Sun and Moon Stood Still
This week the children will learn 5 lessons from the story of The Day the Sun and Moon Stood Still
Joshua needed daylight for a little longer to defeat his enemies during battle, so he prayed and asked God to make the sun stand still. Miraculously, God did this for him. This Bible story shows that nothing is too hard for God to do, and we should not be scared to ask God to do something big. When God is on our side, we can be sure we will win no matter how difficult it may seem.
Enjoy this story of God’s miraculous power!
1. With Faith in God anything is possible
Joshua had a big request from God. He needed the sun to still over the Israelite army so they could defeat their enemies. God granted this request for Joshua. This only shows the great and mighty power of God. Remind the children that there’s nothing that God cannot do. The song that corresponds with the story of the week is
It's Possible with God You can do motions along with the song to keep the children engaged.
2. There is Power in Prayer
Joshua asked for something big and God did what Joshua asked.- Remember don't be afraid to ask God for what you need
.
3. God can do anything
The walls of Jericho were known to be strong and heavily guarded. God did not let this stand in the way.
When reading this Bible story, I used the prop found in the Bring the Walls Down Kids Bible Activity, to show how God brought the walls of Jericho down.
We reminded the girls how powerful God is
4. God has a plan
The battle at Jericho seemed impossible for Joshua and the children of Israel to win. They allowed
God to fight with them, however, and had a miraculous victory! In this Bible activity, we marched the girls through God’s battle plan so they could see it was God who fought the battle at Jericho. You can use the trumpet from the Sound the Trumpet Bible Activity as a prop during this activity. We made a horn with construction paper and a party whistle favor to make an actual sound of a horn. They loved pretending to be at the battle and using their horns! After the activity, we explained that we must let God fight our battles.
