Mark 9:35

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

Key thought

No one likes to be last. We have a hard enough time settling for second place, much less last place.

Jesus reverses the rank. The person who is most important to Jesus is not the person seeking the status and rank. The most important person is like Jesus himself: willing to give up status and rank and and focus on serving others.

For Jesus, last means first in service and first in the eyes of God.

Prayer

Holy God, help me serve others with grace and kindness. Give me eyes to see people as you do, and give me the willingness to serves those in need. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
